Solar Panels atop New Science Building Add to Campus Energy Mix

A solar panel system has been installed atop Eastern Kentucky University’s New Science Building. The seven-panel solar array, which will incorporate a small but expandable renewable energy source into the campus energy mix, will serve as a pilot to explore the practical viability of solar energy as a campus and regional energy source.

Pressley Named to National Environmental Health Committee

An Eastern Kentucky University faculty member has been appointed to the Environmental Health Committee of the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO).

Dr. Sheila Pressley, associate professor in EKU’s Department of Environmental Health Science and chair of the University’s Faculty Senate, will serve a two-year term, concluding in June 2015.

Magazine Honors EKU for Commitment to Military Veterans

Eastern Kentucky University has earned another national honor for its commitment to military veterans and their dependents.

U.S. Veterans Magazine has listed EKU among its Best of the Best Top Veteran-Friendly Schools. Of the 110 colleges and universities listed, Eastern is one of only three Kentucky institutions recognized.

Arlington Head Golf Pro Qualifies for National Tournament

Patrick Williams, the head golf professional at Arlington, will compete in the 2013 PGA Professional National Championship in Sunriver, Ore., June 23-26.

Williams, who qualified for the event with his third-place finish (69-71) in the Kentucky PGA Section Championship at Kearney Hills in Lexington, is one of three Kentuckians (the other two are from Louisville) to make the field.

EKU to Host CPE Junior-Senior Diversity Conference

The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education is still accepting registrations through June 21 for the 26th Annual Academically Proficient High School Junior and Senior Diversity Conference, to be held at Eastern Kentucky University June 28-29.

Board Approves 2013-14 Budget

The Eastern Kentucky University Board of Regents, meeting in regular session on Friday, June 14, approved a 2013-14 operating budget of approximately $332 million (including auxiliary and restricted funds), up .4 percent from the previous year.
