EKU Honored for Commitment to Diversity

Eastern Kentucky University was honored for the fourth consecutive year with a Diversity Award from Minority Access Inc. during the 14th National Role Models Conference, held in Washington, D.C. Sept. 27-29.

Eastern Kentucky University and Kentucky Educational Television have received the Government Leadership in Technology Award from Connect Kentucky for their partnership, along with NASA, that brought 160 middle school students to the EKU campus last January to stoke their interest in science and space travel.

Virtual Economics Resource Available for Free to Area K-12 Teachers

The Eastern Kentucky University Center for Economic Education, with support from the Council on Economic Education and State Farm, is collaborating with similar centers at Northern Kentucky University and Morehead State University to provide training and free copies of the Virtual Economics 4.0 Flash Drive (a $109.95 value) to K-12 teachers in schools throughout the region.

Energy Savings Performance Contract with Siemens Paying Big Dividends

Despite the addition of the New Science Building and the Center for the Performing Arts and the inevitable rate increases, overall utility costs have changed little at Eastern Kentucky University over the last two years.

Development Staff Reorganization Includes Additions, Changes

A reorganization of the Eastern Kentucky University Development Office has resulted in several additions to the staff as well as position changes.

New to the staff are: Carol Ford, Foundation Scholarship coordinator; and Kirk David Jr., Kristen Bennett and Chris Cannon, development officers.

Now, early in its second century of service, Eastern Kentucky University is ready to take another bold step officials believe will result in a state-of-the-art teacher preparation program as well as develop 21st century skills in students attending Model Laboratory School.

Senior from Brazil Places First in Statewide Piano Competition

An Eastern Kentucky University student from Brazil recently earned first place in a statewide piano competition.

Gabriel Fernandes, a senior Honors Program student with a perfect 4.0 GPA, placed first in the Blue Grass Young Artist Division in the Music Teachers National Association event in Murray.
