About EKU: A Distinguished Record of Educational Service

Eastern Kentucky University is a regionally accredited, co-educational, public institution of higher education. Founded in Richmond, Kentucky, in 1906, the university offers both undergraduate and graduate level programs as well as professional training in a variety of fields including education, business, health sciences, art, justice, science and safety. Originally established to help prepare quality teachers for elementary and secondary schools, more than 100 years later, EKU has expanded exponentially to currently offer over 15,000 students each year over 165 general and liberal arts programs.

The university continues to honor its commitment to education and our students by implementing small class sizes and a low student-to-teacher ratio. By encouraging direct student-to-student and teacher-to-student interaction, as well as encouraging teachers to take a very personal vested interest in each student, Eastern Kentucky University demonstrates its dedication to providing high-quality instruction.

*The paralegal program is a partially online program. The summer before finishing their degree, students complete a one-week, on-campus program in Richmond, Kentucky, as well as an internship in the location of their choice. Through these experiences, they earn 10 hours of traditional classroom credit. While on campus, students take two upper-level courses. One focuses on research and writing. The other covers legal ethics and strategies for a successful paralegal job search. EKU is one of the few online paralegal programs that includes an on-campus experience, which is why it has the distinction of being approved by the American Bar Association.
