For up-to-date scores, highlights, and information,
Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Athletics is committed to being a source of pride for the entire Colonel Community. More than 300 student-athletes join coaches and administrators in dedicating themselves to success on the site of competition, in the classroom and within the community. As one of the most prolific departments in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC), EKU has established itself as a national leader. Several varsity programs finish atop the conference’s rankings in the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report as well as ranking high among Kentucky’s institutions annually. EKU has earned a league-best 14 All-Sports Trophies on the men’s side, including each of the past four. The women’s programs have captured seven All-Sports Trophies, most recently in 2003-04. The Colonels continue to excel in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field (indoor and outdoor) and volleyball.
The Department of Athletics unveiled a new series of logos in the spring of 2006. The enhancements were celebrated at a reception that intrigued several hundred people from the University and Richmond community. The fresh look of the Colonel symbolizes the renewed energy and determined drive for success of EKU Athletics. Several areas of supports services, from the Student-Athlete Academic Success Center (SAAS) to recently renovated Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning areas, are in place to provide a healthy environment for our student-athletes.
The Chad Bratzke Student-Athlete Academic Success Center features tutoring and study areas, a state-of-the-art computer lab and academic advising offices. The valuable resource is named in honor of Chad Bratzke, former EKU All-American and NFL defensive lineman, whose generous gift made the center possible. EKU has claimed the prestigious OVC Academic Achievement award seven times since 1988. Join us in celebrating EKU’s Department of Athletics and especially its student-athletes. We look forward to seeing you at our events throughout the year. Go Colonels! |
