The Eastern Kentucky Math Teachers’ Circle, established last year at Eastern Kentucky University, has been invited to make a presentation at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. in April as part of the national exhibit, MathAlive, and the Circle on the Road Workshop.

A Model Laboratory School senior recently became the first student ever to qualify for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) by taking the AMC12 test at the Eastern Kentucky University site of the American Mathematics Competition (AMC).

Eastern Kentucky University’s efforts to develop mathematics and English transition programs in area high schools is already resulting in a reduced need for remediation at the college level, thereby saving students and families valuable time and dollars.

Now the initiatives are earning national attention.

A team of mathematics educators at Eastern Kentucky University has received a grant from the American Institute of Mathematics that will ultimately bring together EKU mathematics faculty with middle school mathematics teachers in an effort to enhance mathematics education in the region.
