 New EKU ID Numbers Frequently Asked Questions

Does the university still need my SSN?

Yes.   The university will still need to collect and maintain Social Security Numbers.   The social security number is still required for communicating with agencies outside the university, such as Internal Revenue Service, National Student Clearinghouse, and financial aid agencies.  

What is my new EKU ID Number?

Beginning March 8, EKU ID numbers will be available on EKUDirect.   The new EKU ID number will also be printed on payroll checks and direct deposit documents.   Both SSN and EKU ID numbers will be on payroll documents during the transition.

How do I access my records after I get a new EKU ID number?

After the new EKU ID numbers are created, you will be able to log into EKUDirect using either your NEW EKU ID number or your SSN ID.   Your PIN will not change.   You can use either number unless you choose to remove your SSN as an Alternate ID.

 

How do I protect my SSN as much as possible?

You may elect to remove your SSN as an alternate ID.   This can be done by logging into EKUDirect and choosing YOUR NEW EKU ID from the menu.

What if I remove my SSN as an Alternate ID and later change my mind?

You may have your SSN reinstated as an Alternate ID by presenting a photo ID to the appropriate university office.   You may have this number reinstated ONLY ONCE .   If you remove your SSN a second time, IT WILL NOT BE REINSTATED .

To reinstate your SSN as an Alternate ID, present photo ID to:

On campus students:   Office of the Registrar, SSB Room 239

Extended campus students:   See your center director

What if I forget my new EKU ID?

If you have not removed your SSN as your Alternate ID, you will still be able to log into EKUDirect using your SSN to retrieve your EKU ID number.   If you have chosen to remove your SSN as an Alternate ID, you will need to present a picture ID to the appropriate university office to get your EKU ID number.

What number should I put on my time card and leave requests?

To prevent delays in processing payroll include both your SSN and EKU ID on time cards and other Human Resources documents.  

How will this new EKU ID affect my Blackboard and EKU e-mail account?

New EKU ID numbers WILL NOT affect your Blackboard or EKU e-mail accounts.   You will continue to use the username and passwords you already use in these systems.

Will anyone on campus ever need me to use my SSN to identify myself?

Yes.Ê Several university units with separate information systems will stillÊbe using the Social Security number as a primary identification number until they are phased into the new EKU ID numbering scheme.Ê These units include:Ê Library, Meal Plans, Coop Education.
