Undergraduate Admission Procedures
Eastern Kentucky University 2007-08
Admission procedures at Eastern are simple, whether you are entering college for the first time or transferring from another college or university.
EKU accepts all graduates of accredited Kentucky and out-of-state secondary schools who meet specified admission requirements.
Admission by special approval is available to outstanding high school students prior to their graduation as well as students who have passed the General Educational Development (GED) test and persons who desire a specialized course or series of courses. Jump Start and High School Special Admit students must make application for admission after graduation from high school in order to be admitted as a Degree Seeking Student.
How To Apply:
- Complete the Application for Undergraduate Admission (online
form OR downloadable
PDF file) early in your senior year. If you need assistance, contact
your high school guidance counselor or the EKU Office of Admissions. Students
who were previously enrolled at Eastern Kentucky University must reapply
for admission as a Readmitted Student if they have not been enrolled at
Eastern during the previous academic term.
- Along with the Application for Undergraduate Admission, submit a sixth-semester
(through the junior year) high school transcript and a $30 application
fee. Your admission application will not be processed without this fee.
- When submitting your application fee by check, please indicate on the
check to whom the fee should be credited and the expected semester of
enrollment. The application fee is not required of students seeking admission
status as a Readmitted Student, Jump Start or High School Special Admit
student. All other admissions categories require an application fee.
- Take the ACT or SAT and have your official test results sent to EKU.
Once You've Applied:
- Apply for campus housing. Please answer the appropriate question on
the Application for Undergraduate Admission. A housing application will
be mailed after you have been notified of admission to the university.
All single, full-time undergraduate students under the age of 21 or having fewer than 60 hours are required to live in university residence hall facilities. Exception is made for students residing with their parents in the parent's principle residence within 50 miles of the Richmond campus as determined by an official state map. Full time students must be 21 years of age or have completed 59 hours prior to the first day of class of any given semester to live off campus for that semester. Students living off campus who fail to meet either of these requirements will be assessed the lowest residence hall fee. An additional Commuter Information form must be completed to request the exception. Falsification of information subjects the student to applicable fees and/or disciplinary procedures. Regardless of age, certain regulations apply in residence halls. The university reserves the right to approve or deny housing for those over the age of 21. (See the Housing website for additional information.)
- Apply for financial assistance by the March 15 priority deadline. Secure
the necessary forms from your high school guidance counselor.
- Arrange to have a final high school transcript (clearly indicating your
graduation date) sent to the Office of Admissions immediately after you
graduate.
- Attend an orientation session.
