Members of Eastern Kentucky University’s Maroon SHRM (Society of Human Resources Management) student organization recently prepared care packages to send to troops stationed away from home during this holiday season.

The students wanted to show support and appreciation to the military troops for their commitment. Students involved were Kevin Brown of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Candice Coffey and Chris Hollingsworth, Lexington; Brad Hill, Danville; Suzanne Laws  and Nicole Sealey, Richmond; Laura Fields, Paintsville; Misty Brumley, Nicholasville; Sarah Newton, London;  and Beth Mattingly, Winchester, The packages included snacks, magazines, and health and hygiene items.  Each student also wrote a letter to the soldier to receive the package, sharing personal thanks for the contributions made by members of the armed forces.

“We try to have some kind of service project to go along with our professional development and informational activities,” said Allen D. Engle Sr., Maroon SHRM advisor and professor of management in the College of Business and Technology at Eastern. “The students decide what they want to do and I basically just stay out of their way while they do things. This term they wanted to do this project.”
