A Martinsville, Ind., student has been recognized by Eastern Kentucky University for her excellence inside and outside the classroom.

Kelcy Diseroad, a senior marketing major with a PGA golf management option, is the S.J. Garner Student Excellence Award recipient for 2013-2014.

PGA Program Director Kim Kincer said: "In the program’s eight year history, we have a few students who have been all-stars in and out of the classroom. Kelcy is one of them. Her academic achievements and service to our program have been above and beyond what we could ever imagine. Kelcy was the only student in her class to successfully complete all 14 of her PGA exams on the first attempt. For the past two years she has been involved in the EKU Relay for Life and she was instrumental in developing a PGM team.”

Diseroad will complete her education at EKU with a seven-month cooperative education experience at Milwaukee Country Club in Wisconsin.

An outstanding student in the PGA Golf Management program (traditionally a junior or senior) is selected annually based on their academic achievement, community service, participation in events, and representation of EKU. The awardee receives a crystal trophy, and his or her name is inscribed on a permanent plaque housed in the PGA Golf Management suite.

An avid golfer herself, Garner retired as marketing faculty from EKU in 2009 following 25 years of dedicated service to her students, colleagues, and the University.
