Eastern Progress Staff Members Capture KPA Awards

Eastern Kentucky University’s student-produced weekly newspaper, The Eastern Progress, captured 10 awards at the 2013 Kentucky Press Association awards banquet on Jan. 24.

Competing against all of Kentucky's university newspapers, The Eastern Progress won a first-place award for Best Lifestyle Section, as well as three second-place awards for news coverage and column writing. In addition, the newspaper took home three third-place awards and two honorable mentions.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the newspaper’s staff, and how we did at the Kentucky Press Association awards,” said Wesley Robinson, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief. “Every member of the staff worked extremely hard over the past year, and it’s always nice to see them recognized for their efforts.”

Robinson, a journalism major from Louisville, won three awards: for spot news reporting, editorial page and front page. In addition, chief designer Katie Brooks, a graphic design major from Bardstown, also won three awards: for special section design, lifestyle page design and front page design.
