EKU Choirs, Southern Chorale to Present Concert March 2 at Richmond Church
The Eastern Kentucky University Choirs will present their spring concert on Sunday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church in Richmond.
The EKU Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, and University Singers are led by Dr. Richard Waters, director of choral activities at EKU, as well as choral conducting graduate students Hannah Draper Burnett, Bryan Ijames, and Chase Moore.
Joining the EKU Choirs for the March 2 concert will be the Southern Chorale, the primary vocal touring ensemble at the University of Southern Mississippi. The Southern Chorale is led by Dr. Gregory Fuller, director of choral activities at USM. Under Dr. Fuller’s direction, this 60-voice ensemble has appeared at numerous regional and national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association and the National Association for Music Education. Recent endeavors include a recording project of the music of James Mulholland and performances of J.S. Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” and William Walton’s “Belshazzar’s Feast.” In the last decade, the Southern Chorale has toured Europe, Mexico and Jamaica.
The program will include music by Samuel Barber, Eric William Barnum, Duke Ellington, J.D. Frizzell, Galina Grigorjeva, G. F. Handel, Elaine M. Ross, Jake Runestad, John Rutter, Heinrich Schütz, Richard Waters and others.
