Frankfort Man Receives Whitt Scholarship in Music
A Frankfort man has received the Robert E. Whitt Memorial Endowed Award in Choral Music Excellence at Eastern Kentucky University.
Travis Morris, a junior music education major and son of Linda Gipson, has sung in all three choirs at EKU as well as in the Kentucky Music Educators Association All-Collegiate Choir. The Anderson County High School graduate has also served as treasurer of the Delta Omicron international music fraternity.
“Travis is a strong vocal leader in the choirs at EKU, displaying a positive attitude and strong work ethic,” said Dr. Richard Waters, director of choral activities at EKU. “He has also excelled in the conducting class and has a bright future ahead of him as a music educator.”
The scholarship honors the memory of Robert E. Whitt, who performed in several choral ensembles while a student at EKU before passing away after a brief illness in 1987. Robert was the son of Calvin and Dora Whitt of Danville and the brother of Marc Whitt, associate vice president of public relations at Eastern.
