Jock 'n' Roll Fundraiser to Help Student Veterans Attend OVC Tourney
Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes will come together Monday, Feb. 9, to enable two EKU student veterans to attend the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Basketball Tournament (March 4-7) and enjoy two nights in Nashville.
The fifth annual Jock 'n' Roll fundraiser, organized by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, will feature six performances that include members of eight of the University's sports teams: football, softball, volleyball, soccer, men's and women's golf and men's and women's cross country. The event begins at 9 p.m. in Brock Auditorium. Tickets are $3 at the door; $2 pre-event at the Bratzke Student-Athlete Academic Success Center.
Last year's event raised $800. Judges for the event will include EKU President Michael Benson. In addition to the judges choosing a winner, the audience will choose a winner as well.
"Our student-athletes really enjoy this event and get excited about it ever year," said Kate Johnson, director of EKU's Bratzke Student-Athlete Academic Success Center.
The fund-raiser is tied to the Ohio Valley Conference's Hoops for Heroes initiative. This year, Shannon Neely, an education major who served five years in the Navy, and Edmund Furphy, a public accounting major who served six years in the Marine Corps, will be headed to Nashville and the OVC tourney.
