Mohanty Selected as Fulbright Specialist
Dr. Amiya Mohanty, professor emeritus and adjunct professor of sociology at Eastern Kentucky University, has been selected as a Fulbright Specialist.
The selection was made on behalf of the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board, the U.S. Department of States Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars.
Mohanty has accepted an invitation from Ravenshaw University in India to serve as a Fulbright Specialist in Sociology and Social Research in Fall 2013.
Mohanty, who came to the U.S. with Fulbright and Smith-Mundt Fellowships and earned his doctoral degree in sociology from Florida State University, has taught at EKU since 1969. He is the co-author of two research monographs, has published a number of research articles in scientific journals, and received research grants from the Smithsonian Institution and the American Center of Oriental Research in Jordan. The latter enabled Mohanty to study changing social supports, problems and adjustments of the elderly in India and Jordan.
He also has assumed leadership roles in several professional and socio-cultural organizations at local, state and regional levels.
