Dr. Laura Newhart, chair and associate professor in Eastern Kentucky University’s Department of Philosophy and Religion, has been accepted by the American Philosophical Association's Committee on the Status of Women to participate in a training workshop to serve in the APA CSW-Sponsored Site Visit Program.

The APA CSW Site Visit Program is intended to serve as a consulting resource for university and college philosophy departments wishing to increase the number of women and other minorities among their faculty and students, enhancing the diversity and general climate in those departments.  The goals and activities of the program are modeled after the National Science Foundation's ADVANCE program.

Newhart said she was “very excited to have the opportunity to serve the discipline of philosophy in this important way and make a positive contribution to efforts at EKU to improve recruitment and retention among women and minority students, in particular.”

The APA CSW-Sponsored Site Visit Training Workshop will be held on June 1 in conjunction with the Diversity in Philosophy Conference at the University of Dayton in Ohio.
