Nursing Chair Named to Central Baptist Hospital Board

Dr. Judy Short, Foundation Professor of Nursing and chair of Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing at Eastern Kentucky University, has been named to the Board of Directors of Central Baptist Hospital.

Short, who began her professional career in obstetrical nursing, joined the EKU faculty in 1987. A member of American Nurses’ Association, Kentucky Nurses’ Association and the international honor society of nursing Sigma Theta Tau, she has served as an on-site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and a program evaluator for the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

At EKU, she has chaired the Graduate Committee and Athletics Committee, been a member of the Faculty Senate, and currently serves on the Regional Stewardship Faculty Advisory Committee and the Foundation Professor Selection Committee.

Chair of the Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing since 2006, Short earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from EKU, her master’s from the University of Kentucky and her doctoral degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Central Baptist Hospital, owned by Kentucky-based Baptist Healthcare System, is a 383-bed acute care facility, which offers major tertiary services to all of central and eastern Kentucky. Central Baptist is among the largest providers of cardiac, neurological, oncology and obstetrical services in the state. In addition, Central Baptist operates five major outpatient centers in Fayette, Jessamine and Madison counties and offers home care services to residents in fourteen central Kentucky counties. Central Baptist has been named a Magnet Facility for Nursing Services Excellence, awarded to less than 6 percent of hospitals in the United States. Central Baptist operates one of only two breast centers in Kentucky accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), is accredited by the Joint Commission for its Stroke Program and was the first hospital in the area to receive accreditation for its Chest Pain Center.
