Five Eastern Kentucky University Risk Management and Insurance students attended a national Gamma Iota Sigma conference in Dallas Oct. 2-4.

Gamma Iota Sigma is a professional co-ed fraternity relating to the insurance industry. EKU students attending the event were junior Jessica Bowen, Demossville; and seniors Mitchell Blaser, Louisville, Bethany Boehm, Tampa, Fla.; Charles Cotton, Yorktown, Va.; and Kaleb Adams, Corbin.

Faculty adviser Dr. Siwei Gao accompanied the students.

Students Jessica Bowen and Mitchell Blaser agreed that the conference had given them great benefits.

“The networking opportunities were huge,” Blaser said.

“I actually got to interview with a company,” Bowen added. “Really putting yourself out there at these events is how you get hired after graduation.”

In addition to networking opportunities and career fairs, the conference also included a series of lectures and seminars.

Students also visited AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, where they were allowed to kick and pass on the field, and the JFK Memorial.
