WEKU Concludes Successful Fund Drive
WEKU-FM, the public radio service of Eastern Kentucky University, recently wrapped up a successful spring fund-raising season.
“This year we did something a little different,” said Station Manager Roger Duvall. “We divided up the number of days we raised funds into two on-air drives.” The result was the highest fund-raising total in the station’s history, topping $95,000 in contributions in just seven total days on-air.
“Our previous best was last spring’s eight-day drive that netted about $83,000 (a 15 percent increase in 12 percent less time),” Duvall said, adding that both of this year’s drives also brought a total of almost 300 new contributors to WEKU.
Additionally, 40 percent of the total contributors became “sustaining members” of the station, agreeing to give ongoing monthly contributions that “will give the station a more consistent base of support for the long term.”
WEKU broadcasts to more than 50,000 listeners in central and southeastern Kentucky on WEKU (88.9FM in Richmond-Lexington), WEKH (90.9FM in Hazard) and WEKF (88.5FM in Corbin), as well as 106.7 in Frankfort, 96.9 in Barbourville and 95.1 in Pikeville.
Financial support for WEKU programming comes from listeners, businesses and organizations in its coverage area; from Eastern Kentucky University; and from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
