Dr. Deborah Whitehouse, dean of the College of Health Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University, is one of only three Kentucky educators, and the only representative of a regional university in the Commonwealth, named among the “100 Awesome Deans of Public Health.”

The list was compiled by MPHProgramslist.com. -- Advocates for Public Health Student Education. According to the web site, selection was based on the reputation of the institution and the personal achievements of the dean. “As with any degree program, the credentials of faculty members and dean of the colleges are crucial for the success of the program.”

Whitehouse, a long-time chair of EKU’s Department of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing, was named dean of the College in May after serving as interim dean since October 2011. She had served as associate dean of the College since 2001.

While at Eastern, Whitehouse has been instrumental in the development of two doctoral degree programs – a doctorate of nursing practice and, most recently, a doctorate in occupational therapy.
