Foster Camp Welcomes 623 Young Musicians to 79th Season

More than 600 young musicians from nine states have descended on the Eastern Kentucky University campus this summer for the nation’s second oldest music camp.

Founded in the midst of the Great Depression, the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camps, now in their 79th season, offer numerous options throughout June for middle school and high school students.

She grew up one of nine children in a blue-collar family.

Higher education was hardly discussed in her Bullitt County home, though certainly the values of hard work and making one’s own breaks in life were instilled. The father retired as a machinist from Reynolds Metal Company, while Mom stayed home to raise eight girls and one boy, born only 15 years apart.

Mock Trial Team Finishes Fifth in St. Louis Tournament

A team from Eastern Kentucky University finished fifth in the Arch Invitational Mock Trial Tournament in St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 19-20.

Competitors included host Washington University, the University of Texas at Austin, University of Missouri at Columbia and Kansas City, St. Louis University, University of Iowa, University of Pennsylvania and Vanderbilt University, among others.

EKU Announces Move to Establish Tobacco-Free Campus

Eastern Kentucky University President Michael Benson announced today that a task force has been established to finalize a tobacco-free policy on campus, to take effect June 1, 2014, and develop implementation strategies that assist the University community with the transition.
