Pearse Lyons, Eugene Hughes Address Grads at Fall Commencement
Alltech founder and President Dr. Pearse Lyons and former Eastern Kentucky University Interim President Dr. Eugene Hughes addressed 1,218 degree candidates at EKU’s annual Fall Commencement in Alumni Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 17. A morning ceremony, featuring Lyons as keynote speaker, recognized degree candidates from the Colleges of Education, Health Sciences and Justice & Safety.
EKU VETS Recognized As National Program of the Year
Eastern Kentucky University’s Veterans Education and Transition Support (VETS) organization was honored as national Program of the Year by the Student Veterans of America (SVA) for “The Journal of Military Experience.”
Four future VETS leaders received the honor at the closing banquet of the SVA’s fourth annual national conference in Las Vegas, Nev.
Long-Time Dean of College of Health Sciences Retires
Dr. David Gale, dean of the College of Health Sciences (formerly College of Allied Health and Nursing) at Eastern Kentucky University since 1973, has retired from the university.
Dr. Deborah Whitehouse, who had been serving as associate dean of the College, will serve as interim dean.
EKU Center for the Arts Board Re-Elects Officers
The EKU Center for the Arts Community Operations Board has elected officers and announced appointments for the 2011-12 term.
Dr. Bob Rogow, dean of Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Business & Technology, was re-elected as chair of the Board. Other officers re-elected were David Fernandez, vice chair, and Barry Poynter, treasurer.
