Bring your banjo, fiddle, guitar, dobro, mandolin or bass to the Burnam Hall basement this Friday at noon for our weekly open jam session. The EKU Appalachian and Bluegrass Music Organization (ABMO) hosts the event each Friday at the EKU Middle College (enter at the back door of Burnam Hall closest to Case Hall, the Middle College entrance). EKU Students, faculty, staff, and other pickers and singers welcome.

Find out how you can help the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee send EKU Military Veterans to the OVC Basketball Tournament in March as part of the Hoops for Heroes project. An information booth will be set up in the Concourse of Alumni Coliseum at the January 24th Men’s Basketball game beginning at 6pm. Stop by to meet our SAAC members and see the Veterans recognized at half-time of the basketball game!

Students, faculty and staff are welcome to audition this Saturday, Jan. 26th at 2:00 pm in the Weaver Dance Studio for EKU Dance Theatre's Spring Concert. Just come in stretchy clothing and be prepared to learn short segments of each of the choreographer's pieces. The concert this semester is April 10-13.

Author and humanitarian Mike Kim will present “North Korea-China: A Modern Day Underground Railroad” on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Hall of the Student Success Building.

Kim will tell the story of how he left his financial business in Chicago, moved to the China-North Korean border, and began to operate undercover as a student of taekwondo while leading North Korean refugees to safety via a 6,000-mile underground railroad that led from Pyongyang to Bangkok.

Kim’s visit includes:

Hello everyone, this is the VP of the AFA Club Dhahran Mason and I hope you all have had a great start to your semester. AFA Club and AFA as a whole has a lot going on this semester so we are trying to kick-start this thing as fast and as smoothly as we can.

This semester we have:

Trips, Skits and we will be dropping knowledge in between.

We have:

Talent shows, Award shows and community service opportunities.

We will provide:

Engaging discussions, educational resources and ways to help you grow as students and people.

We will even have an election that will go much smoother than the one this past November.

Our first meeting will be Monday Jan. 28th in the Library 208 at 4:30.

The On-line Application for EKU Student Teaching for fall 2013 will be open on February 1-15, 2013. Students have to apply for student teaching within this window or you will not be eligible to student teach in August! Be sure to confer with your adivsor and apply for Student Teaching through EKU Direct.

Dr. Anthony Weaver (Assistant Dean, UK Morehead). Dr. Weaver will be speaking about the criteria necessary for a strong medical school application. He will also be discussing the UK Physician Leadership Program and Physician Assistant Graduate Program.

Katrina Winkler is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and a fourth year medical student with the UK Rural Physician Leadership Program, who will be discussing her undergraduate and medical school experiences.

This is a great opportunity for any students considering medical school or Physician Assistant programs.

Taylor Fork Ecological Area is a 60 acre restoration, research, and outdoor learning site owned and managed by EKU. Students are the primary beneficiaries of the site so please come on out and lend your support.

This Saturday we plan to perform upkeep at research plots including installing a new rabbit fence and marking wetlands. We’ll also work on trail repair a rail and honeysuckle removal. Please bring your own water and dress appropriately, it will probably be cold.

Directions: We’ll meet at the Burn Building to carpool to the site. You can come and go as you please. Please don’t drive past the Burn Building unless you are confident that your vehicle can get through some muddy steep slopes. Also, please don’t park directly in front of the Burn Building. It’s just a 10-15 min walk from the Burn Building to the Taylor Fork entrance. See link for maps.

This is a great way to make new friends and learn about other cultures.

As a child, Kenneth was surrounded by music. His parents were song-writers and musicians and at an early age instilled in him a love for the arts. He studied classical piano technique for nine years and also has become proficient in other genres of music as well as music production and writing. His interest in dance began at the age of thirteen. After about four years of practice, he perfected his own freestyle moves and he began to perform and battle at competitions, high schools and church youth events which built his confidence. The response from the crowd was incredible and he began to receive calls to perform at parties, colleges, high schools, skating rinks, picnics etc. You can find Xclusive entertaining thousands as a regular game performer for Minor League Baseball when he is not touring colleges.

EKU's music department will host a Horn Quartet recital on Thursday, January 31st at 8pm in the Gifford Theater. Free and open to the public.
