The Office of Military and Veterans Affairs invites 30 student veterans to participate for free in ArtReach: Project America workshops on March 8th, 2013. 15 student veterans will participate at 12:30 P.M. and the other 15 at 3 P.M. in the Perkins Building. The workshops normally cost $85 but are free to EKU student veterans thanks to the OMVA and proceeds from The Journal of Military Experience.

“Since 1999, The ArtReach Foundation’s mission has been to influence and assist, through creative expressive arts therapies, the growth and development of children and adults who have experienced the traumatic effects of war, violence, and/or natural disaster.”

History Tutoring Centers Opens Today, Monday January 28th. Students taking undergraduate courses in History can now get assistance with their coursework. History Helpers are available from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays; and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays in Keith 341. Students can also call 622-1292 or visit History Helpers at EKU on Facebook. Assistance with note-taking, exam preparation, reading and research assignments, and paper preparation available.

Please join the Department of Computer Science for a Colloquium Series presentation entitled "Development and Business Processes for Building Your Own Web Applications", given by Steve Shearer who is a 2006 EKU graduate with a BS in Computer Science. Mr. Shearer has been very successful in web and software development, and has recently gone in business for himself. He is anxious to share his story with students about how he got his start on a prosperous career.

Come out to Powell Corner the week of Jan 28th and Feb 4th between 11 and 1 to buy tickets for Jock N'Roll, an all EKU Athlete Talent show, that will be held in Brock Auditorium on Feb 12th. Proceeds go toward sending 4 EKU military veterans to the OVC Basketball tournament in March as part of the Hoops for Heroes project.

Tickets are also availabe to purchase in the Bratzke center located in Alumni Coliseum, RM 103.

Donations are welcome as well!!!

The AARI is sponsored by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English and is endorsed by the International Reading Association. EKU is serving as a host institution for this event in order to raise an awareness of African and African American literature. EKU faculty, staff, administrators and students, along with area high school students are invited to read a 3-5 minute excerpt from favorite African and African and African American writings. An Oxford-style debate will examine the topic of reparations for slavery in the United States. The debate is part of EKU's year-long observation of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Participants in the debate, all members of the EKU faculty, will be Dr. Mike Austin, Dr. Gregg Gunderson, and Dr. Laura Newhart. The moderator will be Dr. Patrick Nnoromele. Proof of attendance sheets will be available at the event for instructors wishing to give credit for attendance. Free and open to the public, the event is sponsored by EKU's African/African-American Studies Program and Department of Philosophy and Religion.
