Dr. Lee Alan Dugatkin, Professor of Biology and Distinguished University Scholar at the University of Louisville, will present “Crossroads: Thomas Jefferson and How Natural History Shaped America’s Perception of Itself” on Thursday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Hall of the Student Success Building.

The author of over 150 articles on evolution and behavior, Dugatkin has published a number of text books and trade books, including “The Prince of Evolution” and “Mr. Jefferson and the Giant Moose.”

Dugatkin’s visit includes:

Have you experienced an instructor who inspired you, motivated you, showed you they have an interesting life story and/or gotten you excited about course material? If so, you have a chance to nominate your instructor to inspire others through the yearly If this were my Last Lecture event. Nominations are available until February 26th.

One person will be chosen from all nominees to present their version of what their last lecture might look like if they knew it was the last time they would be able to speak to a group of students. These lectures offer instructors the opportunity to share life lessons, words of wisdom and truth they want all students to know. Interested in storytelling? Join a new student organization sponsored by the Public Radio News Directors, Inc. (PRNDI) Come to our first organizational meeting Wednesday, Feb. 20 @ 4 p.m. in Combs 302.

All EKU students are invited to help organize a pilot project sponsored by PRNDI, WEKU and the EKU Department of Communication.

Students will have the chance to produce public radio style stories for WEKU and Kentucky Public Radio (building resumes and portfolios) and also create a semi-annual, multi-media reporting project.

Members also will have access to PRNDI’s national network of experts, employment opportunities, a national student competition, and an annual conference (June 2013 in Cleveland).

The Noel Studio and EKU Libraries workshop will explain and demonstrate Zotero, a reference manager program that collects, manages, and cites sources. Zotero requires installation, so participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops; however, laptops will be available for those who do not bring a laptop.
