Undergraduate Degree Programs
Our undergraduate degree (B.S.) program in Computer Science has a strong emphasis on developing programming skills in the areas of general computer science, computer technology, interactive multimedia (game design) and artificial intelligence in data science.
For students interested in Cyber Security, our B.S. in Cyber Systems Technology prepares students to pursue a profession in companies and other organizations where installation, monitoring, support, analysis, security, troubleshooting and management of local and wide area networks.
A partnership between EKU and the Kentucky State Police (KSP) provides our students seeking a B.S. degree in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity with the unique opportunity to work directly with a KSP sergeant and full-time forensic examiners in the Digital Forensics Satellite Lab. This 'hands-on' experience helps to prepare students for employment opportunities in these areas.
B.S. in Computer Science
Computer Science (General) Concentration: Builds a solid foundation in programming languages and computer systems. This concentration also provides you with experience and develops
skills in system analysis, design, documentation and implementation. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration. (Program accredited by ABET)
Artificial Intelligence in Data Science Concentration: Builds expertise for programming Machine Learning/AI applications in Computer Vision, Healthcare, Finance, and Cybersecurity. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration.
Computer Technology Concentration: Prepares you for network certification examinations and qualification for programming and industrial control systems, microcontrollers and microprocessing, LANs & PC communications and network security. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration.
Interactive Multimedia Concentration: Develops expertise in game design, 3-D modeling and animation, graphics programming, and multimedia systems. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration.
B.S. in Cyber Systems Technology
This program prepares students to serve in a wide range of companies and other organizations
where installation, monitoring, support, analysis, security, troubleshooting and management of Local Area Networks (LANs),
Wide Area Networks (WANs) and Internet systems is required, as well as interfacing
with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. Accredited by the Association of Technology,
Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE), our programs meet established qualifications
and educational standards to provide quality programs. (Programs accredited by ATMAE)
Network Security and Electronics Concentration: This concentration provides coursework related to electronics systems, advanced computer networking topics including security, and supporting coursework in computer software and the sciences. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration.
Tech Systems Concentration: This concentration is recommended for transfer students and offers a flexible schedule with technical electives. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this concentration.
B.S. in Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity
Students in the Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity program learn and develop knowledge
and skills to become qualified professionals who are capable of defending cyber networks, fast responding to cybersecurity
incidents, as well as examining digital devices such as computers, mobile electronic
devices and network devices to collect digital evidence that can be used in a court
of trial for a criminal or civil case. Consult our curriculum planner to see what classes are required for this program. (Program accredited by FEPAC)
Accelerated 3+2 Dual Degree Program
B.S. in Cyber Systems Technology and M.S. in Technology Management
Students accepted to the 3+2 Accelerated Dual Degree option are able to complete their B.S. degree and M.S. degree within 5 calendar years because of the accelerated curriculum and because 9 semester hours of graduate coursework will apply to both the undergraduate B.S. degree and the graduate M.S. degree. Only undergraduate students of proven academic ability will be considered for the program. Students should be aware that, in order to maintain their progress in the accelerated 3+2 program, careful coordination with their advisor is required. Depending upon undergraduate progress at the time of 3+2 admission, some summer-school classes may be needed.
