Fast & Innovative Routes to Your Education Career

Option 6: University-Based Alternative Route

This pathway enrolls students in a post baccalaureate teacher preparation program concurrently with employment as a teacher in a school district.

Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.75*, meet university admission requirements, and obtain an offer of employment from a Kentucky school district.

Option 9: Expedited Route

Option 9 provides an expedited route for paraeducators and classified school staff to earn a B.S. in Elementary Education and initial Kentucky teacher certification (P-5). The program can be completed in three years while working in the school system.

In partnership with multiple educational cooperatives, EKU Option 9 increases the aspiring educator pipeline and addresses teacher shortages in the Commonwealth.
