EKU to Host KMEA State Marching Band Championships Nov. 1
Eastern Kentucky University will host the 29th annual Kentucky Music Educators Association Marching Band Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1.
Marching bands from across the state will vie for the opportunity to perform in the final competition, which begins at 6 p.m. EDT at Roy Kidd Stadium. Sixteen bands in each of the five classes will perform in semifinal competition throughout the day at five sites around the region, with four bands from each class advancing to the final competition at EKU.
Bands will be evaluated and scored by six experts in the musical and visual aspects of marching band. Judges have been invited from across the country based on their demonstrated expertise and judging experience.
Semifinal competition sites are: Class 1A at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, 2A at Danville High School, 3A at Bourbon County High School in Paris, 4A at Madison Southern High School in Berea, and 5A at Roy Kidd Stadium.
The event was last held at EKU in 1995.

The high schools competing in each class are:
Class 1A: McLean County, Pineville, Metcalfe Co., Cumberland County, Crittenden County, Nicholas County, Ballard Memorial, Harlan, Russellville, Williamstown, Murray, Paris, Owensboro Catholic, Beechwood, Mayfield and Hazard.
Class 2A: Butler County, Lewis County, Todd County Central, Morgan County, Webster County, Henry County, Christian Academy of Louisville, Powell County, Washington County, Estill County, Trigg County, Garrard County, Caldwell County, Russell Independent, Glasgow and Pike County Central.
Class 3A: Hart County, Harrison County, Breckenridge County, Corbin, Paducah Tilghman, Nelson County, LaRue County, Covington Holmes, Adair County, Wayne County, Taylor County, Boyle County, Allen County-Scottsville, Mercer County, Russell County and Bourbon County.
Class 4A: Owensboro, Rowan County, Hopkinsville, Pulaski County, Logan County, Woodford County, South Warren, West Jessamine, John Hardin, Madison Southern, Calloway County, South Oldham, Madisonville-North Hopkins, Anderson County, North Oldham and Grant County.
Class 5A: Bullitt East, George Rogers Clark, Meade County, Ryle, Butler Traditional, Campbell County, Owensboro Apollo, Lexington Henry Clay, Louisville Eastern, Madison Central, Grayson County, Lexington Paul Laurence Dunbar, North Hardin, Lexington Tates Creek, Muhlenberg County and Lexington Lafayette.
