EKU Theatre to Present "Avenue Q" Feb. 25-March 1
Tickets for the Eastern Kentucky University Theatre production of the adult puppet musical “Avenue Q” will go on sale Monday, Feb. 16.
“Avenue Q” will be presented at 8 p.m. nightly Wednesday, Feb. 25, through Saturday, Feb. 28, plus a matinee performance on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. in the Gifford Theatre of the Campbell Building. The musical contains mature language and themes not suitable for young audiences.
For the first time, EKU Theatre patrons will enjoy new seating recently installed in Gifford Theatre, in addition to improvements in lighting, sound and projections. They also have the opportunity to purchase tickets online and by credit card at theatre.eku.edu.
Winner of Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, “Avenue Q” is part flesh, part felt, and packed with heart. Puppets and people come together in this laugh-out-loud musical, telling the story of Princeton, a recent college graduate who moves to a shabby New York City apartment on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that although the residents seem nice, it is clear this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life … all on a street that seems to resemble one on a beloved children’s show.
The puppets were fashioned by EKU students, and the actors are tweeting in their character names at @ekuavenueQ.
Tickets are also available at the Gifford Theatre Box Office, open noon to 4 p.m. weekdays, and one hour before each performance. Tickets are $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for other adults. Credit cards, cash and checks made payable to EKU are the only payment options. For reservations, call 859-622-1323.
