"STEM-CSI Adventure for Girls" Offered over Two Saturdays
Eastern Kentucky University’s STEM-H Institute is collaborating with the Nerd Squad to provide a free two-day STEM adventure for middle school-age girls on successive Saturdays, April 25 and May 2.
“The Case of the Disappearing Diamonds: A STEM-CSI Adventure for Girls,” will be presented at EKU’s New Science Building, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. both days.
Participants will explore the field of forensic science and perform seven fun and detailed experiments to determine which “suspect” is responsible for stealing the precious stones. Projects include dusting and fuming for fingerprints, fingerprint analysis, chromatography and ink analysis, blood type analysis (using simulated blood samples) and fiber analysis using a flame test. The event will even include a “court trial” on the second day.
Lunch is included both days.
The Nerd Squad is a Lexington-based STEM outreach organization “dedicated to inspiring the next great minds by bringing to life STEM activities,” according to its web site.
The registration deadline is April 17. For more information, contact Dr. Jaleh Rezaie at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 859-622-3168 or 859-582-7484.
