Dr. Allen D. Engle

Meet Allen D. Engle, Sr.: A Distinguished Professor.

Allen D. Engle, Sr., a Professor of Management, is a prominent figure in the academic world. He holds the esteemed position of Foundation Professor at Eastern Kentucky University, and from 2016 to 2019, he was honored as the Harold Glenn Campbell Endowed Chair of International Business. Let’s delve into his remarkable journey and contributions.

He was a long-time member of the Academy of Management (U.S.) with membership in the Human Resources and International Management Divisions, as well as a national and regional professional member of World at Work (formerly the American Compensation Association) and the Society for Human Resource Management. He has been a member of the European Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business. While at Eastern, Dr. Engle has taught courses in management (undergraduate and graduate), a number of areas within human resource administration, organizational behavior, organizational theory, and international management (undergraduate and graduate).

A Multifaceted Professional: Engagements and Affiliations

For three years (2017-2019), he held an appointment as Visiting Instructor of International Human Resource Management at the Department of Human Resources and Organization at the FHWien der WKW, the University of Applied Sciences for Management and Communication, Vienna, Austria. For nine years (2007-2015) he held an appointment as Visiting Professor at the ESCP-Europe Europäische Wirtschaftshochschule Berlin, has been Visiting Lecturer at the FHSG – Hochschule Für Technik, Wirtschaft und Soziale Arbeit, St. Gallen in Switzerland, and Visiting Professor of International Management at the University of Pécs in Hungary.

His research interests are in the topic areas of compensation theory and practices, global performance management systems, leadership and organizational change, job analysis, managerial competencies, and organizational design, particularly as they impact multinational firms. He was the recipient of the EKU College of Business Dean Robert B. Rogow Research Award in 2021. He received the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) Best Paper Award “Country Specific Profiles in Global Performance Management – A Contribution to Balancing Global Standardization and Local Adaptation” by Marion Festing, Lena Knappert, Peter Dowling, and Allen Engle. 11th International HRM Conference, 9-12 June 2010, Aston Business School, Birmingham, UK.

Global Scholar: International Reach

He is the author or coauthor of four textbooks, five book chapters, 25 refereed journal articles, and 56 refereed conference proceedings. His works have been translated and published in German, Hungarian, and Mandarin. He has published in regional, national, and international academic journals, presenting academic papers on many of the topic areas presented above at conferences in the U.S., Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom. Dr. Engle has consulted for regional firms and presented professional seminars in the areas of performance appraisal systems, executive team building, strategically-responsive compensation systems, intercultural management issues, and organizational change.
