Sidewalk U. and Cultural Trips

Sidewalk U. is EKU Honors’ version of an immersion course – a high-impact educational experience outside of the traditional classroom. Designed to place students directly into the cultures and lifeways of the area they are studying, Sidewalk U. courses are interdisciplinary general education courses that take place prior to the beginning of spring semester.

Students complete preliminary readings prior to travel, then participate in intensive course sessions, field studies and service-learning activities throughout the weeklong trip, tying course content to local context. During the first half of the spring semester, a series of course meetings culminate in the presentation of individual research projects.

Recent Sidewalk U. locations include New York City, Chicago and the South Carolina Lowcountry.
