Greek Fee

Understanding EKU’s Greek Fee
Starting in the Fall of 2025, Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) at Eastern Kentucky University will be assessing a Greek fee to individual members of all officially recognized Greek organizations that are a part of IFC, Panhellenic, NPHC, or CGC.

  • The fee will be charged to individual students’ accounts based on their fraternity or sorority membership.
  • The approved fee is $30 per semester.
  • The fee will supplement the funds that Eastern Kentucky University already dedicates towards the members of the FSL community. FSL will be using these funds towards the following:
  • Educational programming
  • Promotion of the FSL experience
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Prevention and wellness programming
  • Staff support
  • This fee is an expectation for all members since their organization receives additional benefits and support from the university beyond other self-governing student organizations that have selective membership processes.
  • All chapters are still responsible for paying council dues.
  • For the Fall semester
  • Returning members billed in August
  • New members in October/November
  • For the Spring semester
  • Returning members billed in January
  • New members in February/March

Previously, funding was provided through a departmental budget and through council dues. Moving forward, chapters will still pay council dues, but the fee will allow for additional resources to be directed to the FSL community.

The addition of these directly paid fees allows for enhanced and/or additional programs and services for FSL members:

  • Educational programming
  • Promotion of the FSL experience
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Prevention and wellness programming
  • Staff support

Students who have resigned their membership in their organization should not submit the Fee Waiver Request form. Instead, they should complete the Greek Fee Removal Form to request the Greek Fee be removed from their bursar bill (please note you will need to log into Engage with your EKU SSO to complete the form).

The following guidelines and process will dictate fee removal:

  • Requests must be made by completing the Greek Fee Removal Form to be considered for removal.
  • Requests must be made by the following dates each semester:
  • November 1st-Fall Returning Members
  • December 1st-Fall New Members
  • March 1st-Spring Returning Members
  • April 1st-Spring New Members
  • If you were a new member for longer than a week in your organization, or an active member for any part of the current semester in which you are being billed, the fee will not be removed from your account unless there are extenuating reasons why the fee should be removed which you can provide as a part of the form.

The committee that reviews Greek Life Fee Waiver and Greek Fee Removal Forms will complete a confidentiality training and consists of representation from the following areas and constituent groups:

  • Fraternity & Sorority Life (1 professional or graduate staff member)
  • Center for Student Involvement (1 professional staff member)
  • FSL community (2 student representatives)
  • Dean of Students Office (1 professional staff member)
