Layne-Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Layne-Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by Robert G. Wood and Judy
M. Layne-Wood, assists students from Kentucky.

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Be a Kentucky resident
  • Attain a 3.0 cumulative GPA (college or high school)
  • Be a degree seeking, full-time student at Eastern Kentucky University in good academic standing
  • Submit a 500-word essay expressing career goals
  • Submit a list of community and co-curricular activities
  • Submit 3 non-family letters of reference (1 must be from an individual representing an academic discipline who is familiar with the student’s academic endeavors).

SCHOLARSHIP USE AND AMOUNT:

  • One award is given each year
  • Students may apply to use funds for Study Abroad, EKU tuition/fees, and other
    expenses related to continuing their education at EKU.
  • To use the funds for Study Abroad, the student must have planned an EKU-affiliated
    study abroad experience that applies toward their EKU degree. A budget form,
    signed by Study Abroad staff, should be included in the application.

APPLICATION PROCESS/SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE/TIMELINE:

  • Complete the foundation scholarship application via the Scholarship Portal.
  • Essays and letters of recommendation are submitted through the portal.
  • Deadline to apply for Kennamer: March 1
  • Per the MOA between EKU and benefactors, the selection committee must include
    faculty from Political Science, History, and English.
