Lindsey Cross, ’09, was honored with the Professional Achievement Award from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). The Best of Eastern Alumni Awards, presented annually during Homecoming weekend, celebrate excellence among EKU alumni. The Professional Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have made significant and lasting service to their field, earning the respect and admiration of their peers and colleagues.
From her roots in Northern Kentucky to a decade of service in Washington, D.C., Cross has built a career—and a life—around public service, critical thinking and uplifting others. After earning her bachelor’s degree at EKU, Cross went on to complete dual master’s degrees in history and security policy studies from George Washington University. For the past 10 years, she has dedicated her career to the U.S. Government Accountability Office, where she helps safeguard taxpayer interests and strengthen national security.
Yet, her heart has always remained with EKU. A proud alumna, she co-founded the Mary Roark Scholarship with close friends, creating opportunities for students in leadership. She and her husband also give annually to EKU, ensuring future generations have access to the same transformative opportunities she values so deeply.
Cross traces her passion for public service back to her days in student government at EKU. More than any single experience, however, it is the friendships she formed on campus that continue to anchor her life. To her, success means using her gifts to contribute while building a life that is deeply fulfilling.
“I think of success as finding a way to be happy in life that makes use of what gifts you have to give to the world,” Cross said.
Her advice to today’s students reflects that same wisdom: try new things, be resilient and trust that there are many ways to build a meaningful life.
