Workshop: This interactive workshop will focus on ethical considerations relevant to American Sign Language interpreters. Participants will examine the RID Code of Professional Conduct (CPC) and learn how to identify and navigate ethical dilemmas that may arise before, during, and after interpreting assignments.

Key topics include:

  • Interpreting ethics grounded in the RID CPC
  • Strategies for resolving ethical issues in real-world scenarios
  • Enhancing professional judgment and decision-making
  • Group discussion and case study analysis

Presenter: Kevin Slater was born and raised in Sacramento, California, in a Deaf-hearing family. His parents are Deaf, and he has one hearing sister. With a Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting
(Tennessee Temple University, 2008) and a Master’s in ASL/English Interpreting (University of
North Florida), Kevin holds a NIC: Master certification through RID.

He brings over 16 years of experience working with Sorenson VRS, recently relocating to
Lexington, Kentucky. Kevin is passionate about continued learning and professional
development—and in his free time, he enjoys reading, traveling, and caring for his cat, Figaro
