Abstract: Join us for a discussion on Mathematical Modeling! Explore the complex nature of mathematical modeling through Modeling Assessment Diagrams (MADs), and learn about the COMAP Modeling Contests and the new EKU COMAP Contest Community in Canvas. MADs will be used to visually represent the dynamic ways that groups of students work towards a solution as they engage in mathematical modeling tasks. In addition to the development of MADs, practical implications from this analysis will be discussed.

About the COMAP Modeling Contests:
The Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) are offered by the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP) at the end of January each year. This is a great opportunity for teams of up to 3 students to apply their knowledge to a challenging, open-ended, real-world application problem. Students in STEM fields would be particularly well prepared, but students from any major are welcome!

If you would like to join the Canvas community but cannot make it to this session, please fill out this form.
