Customize Dashboard for Students

When enabled, students can use a personalized dashboard with movable widgets they can add, remove, rearrange, and save.

Important Notes:

New Canvas Features – Spring 2026

Canvas Portfolios

Canvas Portfolios is a modern, flexible portfolio experience now enabled for all institutions and accessible from the User Navigation menu. It replaces legacy ePortfolio tools and supports both learner-driven storytelling and instructor-guided assessment through Showcase and Evaluation Portfolios. Students can curate work using multiple evidence types, tag competencies, reflect on growth, and export or share portfolios externally, including LinkedIn.

Inbox Signature

Canvas Inbox now supports a standard email signature block. When enabled, users can add a signature to messages composed in Canvas Inbox, aligning Canvas communication with institutional email standards and improving professionalism and consistency in messaging.

All employees must use the institutionally approved EKU Email Signature Generator in official communication and shall not include additional taglines or statements in an EKU email signature line, unless required for certain professional positions.

Inbox Auto Response

Canvas Inbox now includes an Auto Response feature similar to an “Out of Office” reply in standard email. This allows users to automatically notify students and colleagues when they are unavailable, improving communication clarity and managing expectations.

Enhanced Rubrics

Enhanced Rubrics introduce a redesigned rubric experience with drag-and-drop criteria building, flexible rating order, draft saving, and rubric archiving. SpeedGrader now supports multiple layout options for improved usability across devices. New features also include student self-assessment, rubric import/export via CSV, and easier sharing across courses.

Split Student Names in Gradebook Export

Gradebook users can now view and export student first and last names in separate columns. This improves sorting, reporting, and downstream data use while respecting institutional name-display rules and preferred name settings.

IT/IDC Ticket Submission in Help Menu

A new Help menu item provides direct access to IT/IDC ticket submission from Canvas Global Navigation. This streamlines support requests and makes help more visible and accessible for users inside Canvas.

Course Content Offline (Mobile Apps)

Students can now download Canvas course content in the mobile apps for offline access. Content is saved as HTML files, allowing students to review course materials even when internet access is unavailable.

Auto Migrate to New Quizzes

During course copy or import, instructors can now choose to automatically migrate Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes. This optional feature simplifies the transition to New Quizzes and reduces the need to rebuild assessments manually.

Moderated (Multiple Reviewer) Grading

Moderated grading allows multiple reviewers, such as TAs or GAs, to grade the same assignment and submit provisional grades. A designated moderator reviews submissions and selects the final grade, supporting consistency, secondary review, and anonymous grading when enabled.

New Quizzes Now Supports Surveys

New Quizzes now include Survey-type quizzes, allowing instructors to collect anonymous or non-anonymous feedback with graded or ungraded options. Survey results are available through the Reports tab and support common question types, including multiple choice, essay, and file upload.
