Publishing in highly ranked journals enhances a faculty member’s scholarship by validating the quality and importance of their research, increasing their own and EKU’s visibility within the academic community, and opening the doors to external funding opportunities and new collaborations. To further these goals, the EKU Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Administration offers financial support to reduce the cost of publishing research in academic journals and making articles available via open access.
Who is eligible?
Any EKU full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty, EKU library faculty, or EKU clinical faculty member.
Any EKU student publishing with EKU full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty, EKU library faculty, or EKU clinical faculty.
EKU academic administrators are not eligible.
How much support is available?
First authors and corresponding authors from EKU may receive up to $1,700.
For a publication that includes two or more authors from EKU and the first author is from EKU, funds up to $2,250 are available.
Publications can include traditional research articles, short articles (research letters, research notes), case studies, short communications, and review articles. Support for editorials, book reviews, and commentaries will not be provided.
Which costs can be covered?
Publication and processing fees directly related to the publication.
Membership fees only when becoming a member reduces the cost of publication by more than the difference of paying a non-member rate for publication.
How many publications can receive support?
An EKU faculty member or EKU student can receive support for up to two publications per academic year on which they serve as the first author or the only corresponding author.
Publication support will be competitively awarded on a rolling basis until available funds are exhausted. Applications are reviewed by the Publication Support Subcommittee of the EKU Research Advisory Council. Award decisions are generally made within two weeks of submission.
