Faculty Scholars Community

Building on the annual New Faculty Seminar that takes place in year one of the faculty career at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU), the Faculty Scholars Community is designed to support early-career faculty with mentorship in areas of priority. The Faculty Scholars Community is particularly designed for faculty in years two through four of their roles at EKU, along with those seeking additional resources in these areas or identified by their department chairs. The Faculty Scholars Community provides the structure, support, mentorship, and resources to promote faculty success in the early career stages.

Outcomes of the Scholars Community


  • Expand scholarly and service practices through guided mentorship and collaboration
  • Develop a sustained scholarly support network at EKU
  • Learn about resources for supporting publication, research processes, and grant writing
  • Examine service roles and opportunities to promote successful annual and year three review
  • Develop scholarly frameworks for teaching practices that support and retain students

Format


The Faculty Scholars Community will meet monthly during the fall and spring semesters in the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning (FCT&L). Members of the Faculty Scholars Community also have the opportunity to:

  • Receive additional mentoring and consultation in areas of interest
  • Form scholarly teams, research groups, and writing groups
  • Access additional resources to support scholarly production
  • Access additional resources to support productive service roles
  • Provide support for continued instructional innovation and refreshing teaching with current approaches that support students (e.g., classroom observations, mentorship, and open classrooms)
