Safety & Advocacy Resources

Your safety dictates your ability to learn and thrive. At EKU, we take a holistic approach to student safety, providing for students physical, emotional and social well-being. Whether it’s carefully maintaining our student conduct and community standards or our exceptional police department providing for your physical safety, EKU strives to provide an environment where everyone can learn and grow. 

Campus Safety

Call EKU Police at 859-622-1111 or 911 for emergency situations or to make a report. If you call 911 from a cell phone, you may be connected with Madison County Dispatch. Specify if you are on campus, and they will notify EKU Police.

Download the EKU S.A.F.E. mobile app for safety information, communication with EKU Police, geolocation features, safety escort for walking to locations, mobile BlueLight alarm, ways to report a tip, campus maps, emergency plans, support resources, WorkAlone check-in services and more.

All registered EKU students and employees are automatically enrolled in Rave Mobile Safety, the university’s emergency notification system that keeps our campus community safe and informed through text messages, emails, voice calls, campus computer pop-ups, website updates, and outdoor sirens. 
To ensure you receive every critical alert without delay, log into myEKU and review your contact information under the RAVE Emergency Notifications link on the EKU Links card. Visitors and non-EKU community members can also stay connected and opt into emergency alerts at any time by texting EKUAlerts to 67283 (MRAVE), 226787 (CAMPUS), 78015, or 77295

The Student Assistance and Intervention Team (SAIT) identifies, assesses and responds to concerns about students who struggle academically, socially, emotionally, psychologically or behaviorally. All members of the campus community are encouraged to report behaviors that are concerning. The SAIT will be able to reach out to students to intervene, provide support, and connect them with resources that can assist them.

EKU’s Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards promotes student success by upholding the Student Code of Conduct, advocating for community standards, and maintaining a fair conduct system that addresses the diverse needs of the individual and community.

EKU Violence Prevention works to prevent violence and improve the safety of the campus community through education, awareness and bystander intervention. To make an appointment with EKU’s Violence Prevention Coordinator, email ca-stopviolence@eku.edu or visit Powell 013.

All currently enrolled students are eligible for Student Health Services at no cost. Call 859-622-1761 to make an appointment.

The EKU Counseling Center provides a wide range of mental health services to support student emotional health and wellbeing. No matter what you’re facing, support is free, confidential and focused on your needs.

Located in Richmond, Lexington, Danville, and Georgetown, Ampersand provides information about safety and medical care, counseling, advocacy, support groups, workshops, and more. They also provide in-person support to survivors who are hospitalized after an assault. To talk to a crisis counselor 24/7, call 800-656-HOPE (4673). To call the Lexington support line, call 859-253-2511.

The National Sexual Assault Hotline provides basic information for survivors or friends/family of survivors as well as short-term crisis intervention and support and other resources. Call 800-656-HOPE (4673) or for more information or visit their website.

Located in Richmond, Hope’s Wings staff can assist callers in safety planning, respond to general questions about domestic violence, provide referrals, and share additional information about programs and services. To speak to someone, call 859-623-4095.

Located in Fayette County, KY, Greenhouse 17 is an advocacy agency that provides trained crisis counselors to help those harmed by intimate partner abuse. They provide emergency shelter, safety planning, legal advocacy and information about resources. Call 859-233-0657 or the 24-hour hotline at 800-544-2022.

A national organization that provides advice regarding a personal relationship or that of a loved one. Call 866-331-9474 or 866-331-8453 or text “loveis” to 22522.

National Domestic Violence (NDV) provides immediate support to help victims find safety. Call 800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit the NDV Hotline website and use the chat feature in English or Spanish.

Legal Support

Located in Richmond, KY, AppalRed provides free legal services to low-income and vulnerable populations in Eastern and South Central Kentucky.

Transportation

On-Campus

Big E Transit provides shuttles around campus for students as well as a weekend route to shopping centers in Richmond. When downloading the mobile app, choose “Big E Transit” from the system list.

Richmond & Madison County

Kentucky River Foothills may provide affordable transportation to medical appointments and other needs by appointment. See details on their website or call 859-624-2046 for more information or to ask about reserving a ride.

Student Housing

Currently enrolled students can apply for EKU campus living.
