Dr. Jon Draud: Expanding Opportunity Through Education

For Dr. Jon Draud, education has always been about people.

A first-generation college student from Ludlow, Kentucky, Draud found his path at Eastern Kentucky University, where support and opportunity helped shape his future in education and public service. Over a 65-year career—as a teacher, superintendent, legislator, and county commissioner—he worked across political lines with one goal: expanding opportunity through education.

Now, Dr. Draud is continuing that mission through the Dr. Jon E. Draud Teacher Education Endowed Scholarship at EKU. The scholarship supports future educators—many of them first-generation students—who may not feel fully prepared financially or academically but have the determination to succeed.

“I want them to have the same opportunities,” Draud shared.

This Giving Day, join Dr. Draud in opening doors for future Colonels and strengthening education for generations to come.
