For the seventh consecutive year, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) has earned the Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance (KEMI) Destiny Award for workplace safety. EKU is one of 27 recipients across the commonwealth to be recognized for its commitment to workplace safety with the Destiny Award.
“Earning the KEMI Destiny Award yet again is a testament to the consistent, intentional work of our campus community to prioritize safety,” said EKU President David McFaddin. “EKU further promotes safety in the workplace with the only OSHA Training Institute Education Center in Kentucky, delivering state-of-the-art, hands-on training for organizations across the commonwealth.”
KEMI, the state’s largest provider of workers’ compensation coverage, serves more than 19,000 policyholders across all 120 counties. Each year, KEMI presents its Destiny Awards to organizations that best embody its motto, “Control your own destiny,” by working proactively to improve workplace safety. Recipients demonstrate strong safety practices, including managing formal safety programs, offering on-site training and regular safety meetings and maintaining a consistent, organization-wide commitment to protecting employees.
Representatives from KEMI visited EKU on Wednesday, Dec. 3, to present the award.
“Destiny Award winners comprise an elite group of organizations demonstrating ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of Kentucky’s workforce by emphasizing safety every day,” said Jon Stewart, president and CEO of KEMI. “We congratulate 20 of these safety-focused organizations on receiving the Destiny Award multiple years, and we applaud the safety programs of our first-time winners that resulted in a safe workforce and Destiny Award recognition.”
