EKU hosts inaugural School Partners Summit

Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) has long been at the forefront of educator preparation. To continue providing exceptional learning experiences, and further the teaching profession, EKU’s College of Education and Applied Human Sciences (CEAHS) will be leading the School Partners Summit, a new initiative that brings together EKU faculty and staff, school partners, co-op leaders, and statewide representatives to provide feedback on academic programs, analyze performance data, and discuss the future of educator recruitment and retention.

The inaugural School Partners Summit, held in April, brought together over 60 attendees—including school and district leaders, EKU faculty and staff, and partners from Anderson, Bardstown, Casey, Clark, Garrard, Lee, Madison, Montgomery, Russell, Washington, and Woodford counties—as well as representatives from the Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative.

The group discussed new ways EKU’s CEAHS education programs are supporting the needs of schools and future educators. The group also opened the floor for a discussion about creative methods for recruiting and retaining educators, as well as discussed collaborating to use generative artificial intelligence in schools, expand access to teacher preparation, and communicate more broadly about the benefits of a career in education. The School Partners Summit will meet twice a year in the fall and spring. The next meeting is scheduled for fall 2025.
