Ginger Gordon

Ginger Gordon was born and raised in Richmond, Kentucky, where she graduated from Madison Central High School. She later earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Columbia Southern University. She is the proud mother of Abby, age 22, and Rylan, age 15. Outside of work, Ms. Gordon enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing on the lake.

In October 2016, Ms. Gordon joined Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) as the Administrative Coordinator for the Department of Computer Science, now Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT). When asked why she sought employment at EKU, she explained, “I liked the sense of community that EKU offered. It also offers a good work-life balance.” She further shared that what she enjoys most about EKU is the flexibility and time off which has allowed her to spend quality time with her children as they have grown up.

Ms. Gordon is passionate about her role in CSIT stating, “We have a wonderful team, and I see how hard they work to help our students and department succeed every day. It is also rewarding to help our students as they transition into college and watch their growth and progress as they move through the program. It makes you feel like you have made a lasting impact in their life.”

Her colleagues speak highly of her dedication and impact. Dr. Lan Kong noted, “Ginger is an exceptionally dedicated and efficient member of our team. Whenever I reach out for assistance, she responds promptly, often even during non-working hours, and consistently provides thoughtful and reliable support. Beyond her outstanding work ethic, Ginger is kind, approachable, and a true team player. She is incredibly easy to work with, and I never hesitate to ask her for help, no matter how small the task, knowing she is both willing and able to go the extra mile. Her supportive attitude and commitment truly make her an invaluable part of CSIT.”

Dr. Vigyan Chandra stated, “Her efficiency and kindness shine through her work, making the CSIT educational environment a welcoming place for students to learn.” Furthermore, Gordon has been instrumental in managing the logistics that support numerous academic programs. She coordinate recruiting materials, including the creative 3D tchotchkes she prints, which are always a huge hit. She ensures smooth coordination with the EKU Registrar’s office to guarantee class schedules run as intended across multiple modalities and buildings, especially valuable given the changes in semester lengths. Dr. Chandra also praised her organizational skills, highlighting her role in orchestrating the annual CSIT Job/Internship Fair and her invaluable assistance during accreditation site visits. Her detailed coordination was key to the successful review of three CSIT programs under three different accrediting bodies.

Dr. Chandra remarked, “Through the merger of various computer-related programs under the CSIT department over four years ago, Ms. Gordon remained a quiet, stabilizing influence, ably assisting the department chairperson during the transition period and continuing to do so.”

Dr. Shuangteng Zhang summarized her contributions simply but powerfully: “Having been with the department for more than 20 years, I can confidently say that Ginger is the best administrative coordinator I have worked with during my time here.”

Gordon’s commitment, kindness, and professionalism have made her an indispensable part of EKU’s CSIT Department. Colleagues and students alike are grateful for her lasting contributions.
