EKU Exceeds Giving Day Goal, Raising Over $1 Million

Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) celebrated its sixth annual Giving Day on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. With support from across Kentucky and all 50 states, EKU exceeded its goal of 2,425 donors, representing the 2024-25 academic year. In the best year yet, 2,441 donors participated in Giving Day this year, reaching $1,015,000 raised, for a historic single day of fundraising at EKU.

“Surpassing our goal on this year’s Giving Day is a powerful reminder of the strength and generosity of the EKU community,” said EKU President David McFaddin. “Each gift helps us expand opportunity, maintain affordability and support the success of every Colonel. I’m incredibly proud of how our EKU family continues to show up and invest in our students year after year.”

Alumni, faculty, staff and students came together to make this year’s Giving Day another success. EKU alum and Foundation Board member, Dr. Deborah Alexander, said, “There are a lot of ways to spend money, but at the end of my life, I want to look back and see that I have invested in education. EKU gave me my start with many scholarships, so I want to keep investing.”

Of the $1,015,000 raised on Giving Day, over $700,000 was allocated to scholarships, with the remaining funds supporting various programs across campus. These contributions will offer more students access to the transformative experience of higher education at EKU.

Highlights from the 2025 Giving Day include:

  • College of Education and Applied Human Sciences received the most donors
  • EKU Matter of Pride Football Boosters had the highest number of donors in athletic funds
  • Athletics had the highest number of donors among affinity groups
  • Chi Omega led Greek organizations in donor contributions
  • The Eastern Fund, supporting highest-priority needs of the university, received the most donors among funds

“We are grateful for the support of our university community,” said Krista Rhodus, EKU senior director of annual giving and stewardship. “From funding scholarships to creating opportunities, giving back to EKU is an investment in the lives of students. We are thankful for every alum, friend, employee and student who chooses to be a part of Giving Day.”
