Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Libraries will feature books and a variety of publications by EKU faculty and staff at the EKU Authors Book Showcase, as part of the annual Scholars Showcase events. The Authors Book Showcase will take place from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, in the Crabbe Main Library Grand Reading Room.
“Engaging in scholarly and creative activities is an important way that we promote knowledge and innovation at EKU,” said EKU President David McFaddin. “Our faculty put their hearts and souls into their classroom instruction and their passion extends to their many personal and professional accomplishments, such as publishing their work. We’re proud to celebrate our EKU authors at the Authors Book Showcase.”
A few of the authors and books in the collection include:
Dr. Kathy Previs, professor of communication at EKU, “The rhetoric of Project Apollo: the moon story and its televised moments,” examining the news language and cultural narratives around the Apollo missions
Shannon McCarthy, associate professor of graphic design at EKU, authored and illustrated two children’s books
Dr. Avi Brisman, professor in the EKU School of Justice Studies, “Green cultural criminology: constructions of environmental harm, consumerism, and resistance to ecocide,” explaining the emergence of “green criminology” as a unique area of study, co-authored with Nigel South, professor at the University of Essex
Authors participating in the EKU Authors Book Showcase event will each have a table set up with their publications, and many authors will be providing sales for their books, as well.
From fiction novels to children’s stories to academic texts, books and ebooks published by faculty and staff within the last decade are featured in a permanent EKU Authors display in the Library’s main lobby. All other EKU-authored texts can be found in the main collection on the fourth floor of the Main Library and are identified with an EKU Author sticker.
“EKU Libraries strives to support and promote the meaningful work done by the Eastern community,” said Dean of Libraries Julie George. “This event highlights the scholarship of our faculty and staff, and we are proud to feature each author and their publications!”
Featuring authors in the Showcase aligns with the library’s mission to support its users in their pursuit of academic excellence and success. The library also consistently partners with faculty to create open educational resources and open access textbooks, removing financial barriers for students and reducing costs for the university and EKU BookSmart program. Additionally, the Library aids instructors and their students in research assignments and information literacy.

Additional events as part of EKU’s Scholars Showcase include the Celebration of Student Writing on Thursday, April 17, Scholars Assembly on Friday, April 18, as well as honors society inductions, and departmental symposiums and research showcases.
