Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Justice and Safety recently presented Vine Grove, Kentucky, native Ken Armstrong with its 2016-2017 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
The prominent award is presented to only those individuals who have distinguished themselves via their efforts in community service and the fields of public justice and safety. It also recognizes and celebrates the outstanding work and contributions recipients have provided to their profession, the University, and the communities they serve.
Armstrong, who graduated from North Hardin High School in 1987, earned a master’s degree from EKU and has twice served as president of the College of Justice and Safety Alumni Society. He was a member of the Lexington Police Department for 25 years and retired as an assistant chief in 2015. He has been involved in the education of more than 1,200 public safety officials and students in the areas of community policing, leadership and crime reduction efforts. Over the years, he has also been involved in numerous programs and initiatives that have provided a valuable service to Kentuckians.
Armstrong, whose parents are long-time residents of Vine Grove, lives in Lexington, Kentucky, with his wife (Donna) and two daughters (Becca and Ashley). In December of 2015, he was named director of the Division of Code Enforcement for the City of Lexington.
