Eastern Kentucky University faculty member Dr. Lisa Day will discuss women’s art of the Italian Renaissance on Thursday, March 2, continuing EKU’s year-long Chautauqua lecture series “Order and Chaos.”

Day’s lecture, “Order, Chaos, and Gender: Women’s Art of the Italian Renaissance,” is free, open to the public, and will begin at 7:30 p.m. in O’Donnell Hall of the Whitlock Building.

In the summer of 2016, Day taught an EKU Education Abroad course in Florence, Italy, exploring feminism and beauty in Italian Renaissance art. The experience inspired her Chautauqua lecture, which will also serve as the keynote address for Women’s History Month.

Since her career at EKU began in 2001, Day has earned a reputation as a motivating professor able to personally relate to her students. Day received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the EKU International Alumni Association in 2011, and was a Critical Thinking Teacher of the Year nominee for 2014-15. She is also a past director of Green Dot @ EKU and helps organize the University’s annual Herstory Conference, now in its 12th year.

As the director of the Women and Gender Studies Program and an associate professor of English, Day specializes in gender theory, 19th and 20th Century American literature, African-Caribbean literature, and trauma studies. In 2009, she co-edited “Journeys Home: An Anthology of Contemporary African Diasporic Experience” with EKU colleague Dr. Salome Nnoromele.

The Day lecture is sponsored by the Women and Gender Studies Program, Office of Diversity and EKU Honors.
