At the conclusion of a site visit by a team representing the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), the accrediting body for 11 southern states, EKU Senior Vice President for Academics and Provost Dr. Janna Vice shared the following message with the University community on Thursday, Feb. 23:

Dear Campus Community,

I am pleased to announce the results of the SACS-COC on-site team’s exit report this morning.  The team found EKU in 100 percent compliance with all the SACS-COC core standards and all Federal standards.  This accomplishment is quite phenomenal for any university.  We are very proud that even in the off-site review EKU demonstrated full compliance with the adequacy of full-time faculty and appropriate faculty qualifications.  A genuine thank-you to the academic departments for your commitment to recruiting and retaining high-quality EKU faculty.

Regarding the University as a whole, we had no questions raised related to institutional finance, regional campuses, administrative oversight, or governance. We did receive a recommendation for closing some gaps in our assessment processes, for which we will provide further data to SACS-COC in the coming weeks.

Our QEP team was acknowledged for a superior job in designing our next QEP, which is “Read with Purpose.”  Great appreciation goes to Dr. Jill Parrott and Dr. Lisa Bosley for their guidance and expertise in the area of literacy and the QEP.

Special thanks to Vice Provost Sherry Robinson and Dr. Gill Hunter for leading our SACS-COC leadership team and the campus through the reaffirmation process and visit.  Thanks also to the dozens of other faculty, staff, and students who have contributed to this effort.

The SACS-COC final decision will be announced when the Commission votes on our reaffirmation at its annual meeting in December 2017.

These successes are a result of the contributions each of you make to Eastern’s mission every day.  Thank you for your commitment to academic excellence and student success.  Today is a great day to be an EKU Colonel!
