Two Eastern Kentucky University students recently received paralegal scholarships.

Chaudoin photoWilliam Chaudoin, of Summersville, Kentucky, a senior majoring in economics, political science and paralegal science, received the Kentucky Paralegal Association (KPA) Scholarship, valued at $1,000. The scholarship also entitles Chaudoin to free membership in the KPA for the first year after graduation and free attendance at the organization’s annual conference.

Chaudoin, who boasts an overall GPA of 3.58, is also president of the EKU Student Economics and Globalization Association. 

"William distinguished himself as a student with a great mind for facts and details, and also a solid thinker and writer," wrote EKU professor Dr. Steve Barracca in his letter of recommendation.

Brittany Simmons, of Radcliff, Kentucky, who’s pursuing a post-graduate degree in paralegal studies, receivedSimmons photo a $500 scholarship from the Greater Lexington Paralegal Association.

Simmons, whose previous degree was in music, now resides in New York City and has been working for approximately a decade as a singer/actress/dancer. 

"In the time I have known her, I have been most impressed with Brittany's professionalism, intelligence and integrity," Melinda Murphy, director of gift and estate planning at EKU, wrote in her recommendation of Simmons. 

Chaudoin and Simmons were the only recipients of the respective scholarships.
